Nokia GEM

Posted by admin on Nov 24, 2011 in Futurism, Lifestyle, Science & Technology

On 25th Anniversary of Nokia Research Center, the Nokia GEM concept phone was presented. Ultimate customizable device.

Gem

The whole phone is entirely made of touchscreen, which makes the phone completely adaptable to whatever task is at hand. GEM changes it`s functionalities, depends on what are you doing at the moment. For example if you use Navigation, on one side of the display/phone you`ll see the whole map, when on the other side it will be specific location where are you at the moment.
Rather than having a phone with a camera app, the phone can become a camera essentially because the entire phone can have new functions appear on any facet.

See the video to see how this concept could be used!

Duolingo Learn A Language, Help The Web

Posted by admin on Nov 23, 2011 in Education, Lifestyle, People & Celebrity

duolingo

Duolingo is an anticipated website, currently in development, that aims to crowdsource language translation at a massive scale. The incentive for users to contribute is that the system teaches them a language at the same time as they translate. With this project of Carnegie Mellon Professor Luis von Ahn and his research team you learn a language and simultaneously translate the Web.

Von Ahn notes that over the past year and a half, his Carnegie Mellon team has been quietly working on this new idea. It originally arose from a single question: how can you get 100 million people on the web translating everything into different languages for free?

One problem is that there aren’t that many people that are truly bilingual. Another problem is the whole “free” thing. Instead of getting people to do something that felt like unpaid work, why not spin it as a learning experience? That’s exactly what Duolingo does.

Luis von Ahn, the man who brought the world CAPTCHA and reCAPTCHA unveiled his newest and most innovative project to date: Duolingo.

Word Lens

Posted by admin on Nov 23, 2011 in Lifestyle, Places & Travel, Science & Technology

What is Word Lense? Word Lens is an language translation iPhone application. I`m sure we`ve all seen a number of translation tools for iOS devices, but Word Lens strikes us as the most innovative of them all.

wordlens

Word Lens lets you translate written phrases simply by pointing phone camera thru augmented reality! The optical character recognition technology recognizes the text, which is then translated and shown on your iPhone’s screen instead of the original text. 10 years ago this was just a fiction.. Now it`s reality!

Word Lens itself is free, but you must pay for the individual language packs. Currently, only English to Spanish translation and vice versa is available, and that pack costs $4.99. I`m sure this app will become an important part of equipment on travels.

Posted by admin on Nov 22, 2011 in Entertainment, Lifestyle

fret

Built with all the hallmark Fret-King® style and attributes, the Super-Matic™ is a very cool looking beast, cut from matched, two piece centre jointed American Alder, using heritage styling cues to create a subtly nuanced classic double cut body.Hard Rock Maple neck and a premium close grain Indian Rosewood fingerboard with a 10′ radius, finished with an immaculate fret job using hand crowned medium jumbo nickel silver frets. The pickups are Wilkinson WHHBZ33 offset pole piece ‘Zebra’ humbuckers and a Wilkinson WHSM ‘˜vintage voiced’ single coil middle pickup.

The Fret-King Super-matic has a tagline “Possibly the only other guitar you’ll ever need”. Even if you just want to switch to drop D for songs, this system will mean tune all 6 strings while it drops your D string to ensure Peterson Strobe stopping perfection. The apparent simplicity of this guitar make it even more attractive, nothing has been taken away from the classic good looks and the micro hex pickup used by the tuning system is almost invisible.
