OrcaM or 3D Scanner

Scientists at the Germany’s Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and engineers of the NEK Ltd. have been working on the project OrcaM (Orbital Camera System), a giant automated 3D scanner which builds 3D models of any objects automatically and able to produce perfect digital copies of any object.

This clip demonstrates the OrcaM 3D reconstruction system.

OrcaM is capable of producing an accurate, digital 3D model of objects up to 80cm (about 31.5 inches) wide and weight up to 100kg (around 220lbs) and with a geometric accurary less than millimeter (nearly .04 inches). Also it produces complete color, texture and reflectivity maps so that every minute detail is accounted for.
